Rio Occupation London is now over after 30 epic days in London. Our 30 groudbreaking Rio artists occupied more than 50 spaces, showing more than 250 works of art and performances for more than 37,000 people. Thank you for helping us making the Occupation a great success!

João Brasil presents Tropical Britannia

As part of Rio Occupation London, João Brasil chose five collaborators to record five tracks in five days. Isa GT, The Bumps, Moroka, Murlo & Rob Pollinate all brought their own unique styles to Joao’s studio and the finished tracks are available on a mighty fine EP, for free!

Escrever sobre o evento ou sobre as obras e seus resultados - finalizados ou em "working progress" - seria um mero fragmento.

Digo mais, um recorte inverossímil, porque o maior legado desta vivência foi o que se viveu.
Este é o grande projeto final destes artistas: a experiência.
O desafio de conviver e debater seus espaços, seus mundos, seus horizontes, suas técnicas, suas conquistas, suas ansiedades, suas provocações, seus desafios, suas limitações, seus medos, seus absurdos, suas alegrias, suas tristezas, suas frustrações, suas maturidades, suas grandezas e suas artes já eram anseios suficientes para não caber em si.

Transformar o que se viveu em algo concreto era um compromisso moral, mas conceitualmente não era o mais importante, porque no fundo isso nunca representaria o TODO.
Minha experiência aqui foi enxergar de longe para entender onde orientar, além de nos momentos tensos do processo de montagem final dar o play no botão que dizia play.
Aliás a montagem foi um movimento de superação para tornar o possível ficar extraordinário. Parecia o Brasil. E era. A Inglaterra parou para ver e aprender.
Naquele momento era Rio, só pensava no fundod e minha cuca: É nóis.
Todos do grupo queriam ansiosamente o fim da estrada, florida e solar, de preferência com uma caipirinha, e dentro de todas as auto-cobranças que nos fazemos no dia-a-dia o que vale, é lembrar, que cada um dos milhões de passos que daremos, serão igualmente fundamentais. Assim será sempre, mesmo que os 30 dias vividos aqui pareçam eternos, por isso cito um provérbio chinês (se não for, me permitam esta licença poética e passa a ser chinês): "Não corra, caminhe sempre"; assim fica mais fácil observar, criar, ruminar, planejar, fazer, errar, corrigir e evoluir.

Para a faísca vingar, nada melhor que viver o RISCO, da imersiva convivência ao resultado artístico em si.
Destaco além do risco uma CORAGEM louvável além do inesgotável espirito de colaboração desta equipe de realizadores somado a uma generosidade infinita do gigante Paul, o que sempre é lindo ver e guardar com a gente.

Ambicioso como o projeto demonstrou ser, ouso aqui nestas linhas contrariar Olavo Bilac, que afirma numa de suas crônicas que "O Brasil é a terra dos resignados". Por mais que esta herança nos persiga, hoje temos uma clareza de quem somos e o reflexo disso é que "o mundo quer ser Brasil".
Agora a nossa instrinseca e compulsiva vontade de pesquisar (uma maneira gentil de muitas vezes "copiar" os Europeus, os americanos..os ocidentais) se transformará num processo inverso e não tenham duvidas, viveremos uma antropofagia ao inverso, o que nos permitirá dizer que agora a "Nau é Nossa". Ou melhor, nós vamos invadir sua praia.

A experiência de viver tudo isso é o maior dos acontecimentos.

Fecho meu texto - meu trabalho- repetindo esta frase, para mim decisiva e compreendedora:

"Nada do que aconteceu em Londres nos 30 dias de ocupação é tão ou mais importante quanto o acontecimento em si."

O tempo parece estar condicionado ao limite de 30 dias e todas as horas que o compõem. Parece pouco, e os 30 artistas que estão trabalhando no Rio Occupation London não param, nem quando dormem, tenho certeza que aos braços de Morfeu, eles devem estar “decupando” melhor seus filmes, roteiros, cenas novas, objetos que devem ser incluídos ou retirados, desenhos e poemas, caixas e projeções, figurinos, corridas, visitas, musicas e entre outras ocupações mentais.

So, it's the last day of the Occupation. The artists are big news in the UK and also at home in Brazil. One of the country's leading papers, O Globo, carried a big feature on how the artists have captured the imagination and hearts of people in London and the UK.

Some things to look out for:

Look back from the future to where we are now!

Bruno Viana will create an art installation in which the public will see the results of a future excavation during the London Olympics 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016.

Using irony to subvert the values of archeology that fetishises the "unique", "authentic" and "original" in an object in order to impose a logical hierarchy of civilizations, Bruno shall create a debate between current and future Rio and London.

An installation with videos, objects and photographs (produced realistically, but contextualized in the future) will invite people to look differently at their relationships with the past of these two iconic and historic cities.

BIO

Filmmaker Bruno graduated in Cinema and completed a masters in Digital Media at New York University.

A filmmaker with a strong interest in interactive media, Bruno released his first work as a director in 1994 with a short Geraldo Voador, which won awards for best film, best director, best photography and best editing, in addition to widespread praise from 10 international and national cinema festivals including Gramado, Brasília, RioCine, Festival Cinema Festival of Chile and of New york.

With the award for best film with the lowest budget from the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, he directed his first long Cafuné, launching commercially in digital media and in 35 mm. He released the film based on the Creative Commons licensing rules which means it is free to share via the internet and other mediums. In 2009, Bruno released Ressaca, by mounting the film live in front of the public; an unusual way to premier your work.

The Dead Girl`s Feast narrates the story of Santinho, a young man who has been exalted to the position of a saint in a remote riverine community of the upper Amazonas state, after performing a “miracle” upon the suicide of his own mother. The film seeks to be an intimate picture of the ones who are involved in this sect and of the infinite human capacity of “fabricating” faith and seeking for some sense in the horrifying experience of death.

Hangover tells the story of a teenager, from the puberty to young adult years, during the late eighties in Brazil, a time when the country was also going through an economic and political adolescence. From Spice to Ice at The Brick Box was definitely an event not to be missed – mainly because you could not simply walk past the façade of 354 Coldharbour Lane without curiously wandering inside. The exterior wall was painted with thoughts and recollections from people within the Brixton community, and Rio artist Ratão Diniz then photographed the large-scale mural created by brilliant illustrator and graffiti artist Mr Dane - mrdane.tumblr.com
